Finished is the first month (recap)

For those who aren’t familiar, I created a list of 28 things to do in my 28th year before I turn 28. Some of them are one time things, others daily, all of them related to me.

For those familiar and keeping score (I assume everyone :), here is a recap of what I did in the first month.

To kick off the year, I planted a tree on my birthday, which was also conveniently Tu B’Shvat. I made friends with the cab driver who took me to and from the planting site.

For my shabbat in a non-anglo community in Israel, I went to my relatives in Kfar Etzyon. On Shabbat I walked around the kibbutz which I’m considering to be my hike for the month. Before going to the Gush for Shabbat I stayed in Jerusalem that Thursday night and went to the Kotel.

I volunteered almost every week at Etgarim this month, and included a small jogging routine with it as well. I didn’t go to Etgarim this past week and didn’t jog. This is also how I’m mainly learning/practicing my Hebrew.

For doing something new every Friday, for the weeks I can remember, I did work from the Aroma in the Tachana Merkazit in Jerusalem one Friday, I went to the shuk atakim in Kikar Dizengoff, and I walked to Weizmann and Pinkas and took the 66 from there.

Instead of breaking a habit, I created one (a good one).

I read a book for at least 10 minutes every day and finished two books. (The Heart Says Whatever by Emily Gould and The Wings of the Dove by Henry James). Suggestions for new books are welcome and encouraged.

I lit Shabbat candles every week.

I went to a weekly improv workshop which I hope to start going to every week at some point this year.

I started writing essays for business schools but didn’t finish applying yet.

One of the TBAs happened a lot sooner than expected. I found a new job, working as a financial journalist. Basically, I get to apply my love of research, writing, business, and Israel. I also get to follow the Israeli press in Hebrew (helping me learn it).

Over the course of this month, I realized that I need to focus on certain things before entering another relationship. I also realized how much work is needed to take on the fear I’ve mentioned in the past. By doing all these things though, I hope to overcome it soon.

That is basically where I am at right now.
